History

First founded in 1989 as a sole proprietorship C&V Caring Friends established a pediatric care home for abused and neglected children. In 1992 we applied for nonprofit status and became incorporated as a 501 )3c organization. At this time we were operating a second home as a licensed health care facility.

Alas, while the facilities had vacancies to serve children with chronic medical conditions and parents were desperately seeking out care homes that could meet their children's medical and nursing needs, information about Caring Friends as a viable long term care facility was being withheld from families.

And so after 12 years of providing superb care to the community without any grants, the facility was no longer able to provide 24-hour care to children.

Our Former Facility

C &V Caring Friends was a long-term care facility for medically fragile children. Medical services were provided by skilled and experienced professionals.

Words from parents about Caring Friends' Staff
   and Virginia Fuller, R.N., Administrator

"Though the need for care facilities like Ms. Fuller's is great, it is the level of care she provides that prompts this letter in her support."

Dr. David Kittams, Berkeley, CA 1992

"On Saturday, June 6, 1998, I had occasion to visit the C & V Caring Friends facility at 4853 Buckboard Way in El Sobrante. I went there, with little notice, to pick up some t-shirts that our company had mistakenly delivered to them. Upon my arrival, I was invited in. It was obvious that all three children needed constant care and supervision, especially the girl who needed her airway cleared out regularly. It was also obvious that the children were loved and in good hands. The children were clean and comfortable in a bright, open environment. The lady in charge held the baby boy with love and hope. The best compliment that I can pay the facility is that I would have no hesitation in having my son reside in an environment such as the one I witnessed that day."

Bob Howard, Alameda CA, 1998

"We first met Virginia Fuller nearly 3 years ago when our 4 month old son, Kevin, was diagnosed with a serious congenital heart problem. I hope I can clearly express what a wonderful and caring nurse my husband and I think she is. I especially appreciated the fact that Virginia did not try to placate us with false hopes; rather, her honest, gentle, matter-of-fact manner helped us deal with this devastating experience. Our son has been in the hospital three times since his heart surgery, and although we have always been pleased with the nursing care, we feel Virginia was one of the best nurses he has ever had."

Sam & Lynn Losorelli, Pleasanton CA 1988

"As a concerned and involved parent, I'd like to take this opportunity to state how I feel about Virginia Fuller, R.N. I requested Virginia to be one of Michael's primary nurses because I felt her to be conscientious, thorough and concerned about patient hygiene. Hygiene may seem a trivial point, but when your child is in a coma, it is extremely important to you."

Marlee Gillihan, Alameda, CA 1988

"I've found Virginia Fuller, R.N. to be an outstanding nurse with bedside manners which have prompted parents to request her personally as the primary nurse for their children. Virginia is very competentin her skills as a nurse and is always displaying genuine concern for the patients she serves."

Ediolia Goudeau, R.N., Oakland, CA 1989

"I became acquainted with the work of Ms. Virginia Fuller through the parents of one of her patients. The mother of the patient said the she was impressed by the quality of care that Ms. Fuller gave to her child and the way that Ms. Fuller established effective communications with her and the child's father. Several patients have spoken to me very positively regarding the competency and professionalism that Ms. Fuller brings to her job."
