21st Annual Human Race

The Human Race is a statewide community fundraising event coordinated by the Volunteer Centers of California. Last year, walkers in Contra Costa County raised $110,000 on behalf of 72 local nonprofit organizations.

DATE: TBA - 2004

TIME: 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM (With registration from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM)

LOCATON: Lafayette Reservoir, 3849 Mt. Diablo Boulevard, Lafayette, CA. Weather can vary from warm to chilly, so be sure to bring a sweater or jacket.

DISTANCE: A 3-mile (5K) untimed walk/run around Lafayette Reservoir. The trail is flat most of the way with some hilly locations. It is recommended that wheelchair participants have assistance in hilly areas.

PARKING/SHUTTLE: Very limited parking (for a fee of $5.00) at the reservoir. Race participants can park for free at the Lafayette MART station and use the free shuttle service provided.

PRIZES: Every walker who turns in $75 or more on race day gets a free T-shirt. There is a limit of one T-shirt per walker listed on the pledge form. The walker who turns in the most money on race day will win an additional $500 for their agency of choice.

WHO PARTICIPATES: Nonprofit organizations, businesses, service clubs, seniors, professional associations, youth clubs, community members and anyone who wants to contribute to their favorite organization and have a great time. Dogs on leashes are allowed and welcome.

WHO BENEFITS: Nonprofit organizations in Contra Costa County. The agencies receive from 75% to 90% of collected pledges, depending on the amount raised. The remainder is used to help underwrite Volunteer Center costs for event coordination and year-round volunteer recruiting and referrals. All donations are tax deductible.

JOIN THE HUMAN RACE: It is a great way to start the day, so come walk for your favorite cause. You may walk for your agency or volunteer to help at the event. Businesses, consider becoming a sponsor to help underwrite costs.
